Classifications are valid for four seasons after they are earned.
If, after four seasons, the classification has not been renewed, it then reverts to the
next lowest letter and the then current year.
Such change will be effective at the beginning of the new fencing season – Aug. 1. For example, if you earned a B in 2018 (B18) and did not re-earn your B for four more years, your B became a C22 on Aug. 1,
2022. If you then did not renew your C22 for four more years, it becomes a D26 on Aug. 1, 2026.
In all cases, the classification year suffix is the year in which the result was earned. If nothing is known
about the fencer, the National Events Department will consult with the National Weapon Coach or Chief of Sports Performance regarding which classification should be used.
National Team member is defined as a fencer that has represented another nation in international competition and/or has been entered by another nation into a USA Fencing competition.
